Prologue Act 1: The Outlander Who Caught the Wind
The Traveler and their twin sibling are confronted by an unknown god as they attempt to leave a world. The god seals the sibling and the Traveler, stripping their powers and placing them in Teyvat. The Traveler eventually awakens and, while exploring, saves Paimon from drowning in a lake. Grateful, Paimon becomes the Traveler's guide and suggests seeking The Seven to help find the lost sibling.
In Starfell Lake, the Traveler unlocks Anemo powers from a statue of The Seven and spots a green dragon in the distance. While pursuing the dragon, they encounter a stranger trying to calm it, but the dragon becomes alerted to the Traveler's presence and flees, leaving behind a crimson teardrop crystal.
After leaving the forest, the Traveler and Paimon meet Amber, an Outrider of the Knights of Favonius. She escorts them to Mondstadt after they help her deal with a Hilichurl camp. Amber gifts them a Wind Glider, but during a test flight, the dragon (called Stormterror) attacks. With the help of a mysterious stranger, the Traveler drives off the dragon.
This catches the attention of Kaeya, the Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius, who brings the Traveler to Jean, the Acting Grandmaster. Jean explains that Stormterror's attacks are linked to Ley Line disruptions and asks the Traveler to handle three of the Four Winds' Temples, with guidance from Lisa, the Knights' Librarian. After completing this task, the Traveler and Paimon return to Mondstadt to seek further instructions from the Knights.
